Pig Movie Storyline

After the loss of his wife and partner Lori fifteen years ago, Robin “Rob” Feld, a former Portland-based chef, has become a recluse truffle forager. He uses his treasured foraging pig to search truffles deep in the woods of Oregon. He and his pig start selling the truffles they locate to Amir, a young, unskilled salesman. Rob is attacked by mystery intruders who also take his pig one night.

He contacts Amir, who assists him in locating a gang of addicts suspected of being the perpetrators by some other local truffle poacher. They deny having the pig, but suggest that the guy who took it from them resides in Portland. Rob and Amir join an underground combat ring, where they discover another more clue to Rob’s pig’s location.

Pig Movie Review

Don’t be fooled by the name, this movie not about a pig at all. Rather, it’s a subdued indie drama about memory, fatherhood, and the food business in Portland, Oregon. Michael Sarnoski, co-writer and director, has an eye for unvarnished beautiful nature, and Patrick Scola’s sensuous cinematography embraces the brilliant light that pours through a kitchen door and the patterns of fall leaves in the Pacific Northwest. Sarnoski seems to appreciate no-frills realism just on dish as well, having Rob go into a pompous rant against molecular gastronomy’s ambitions over a dish of scallops.

Though the film is set up as a vengeance thriller in the vein of John Wick, Cage’s star image is quickly undermined. His regular performance approach may best be defined as “all in,” and he often crosses the line into the bizarre. As he carefully kneads dough and discusses the existence of acids in persimmon fruit to a tiny kid, he exudes a serene, studied sagacity. An delicious dinner delivers a terrible stomach blow that brings a mature man to tears.
