Thappad Movie Storyline

Vikram Sabharwal and Amrita Sandhu are blissfully married. Amrita is a beautiful lady who works as a housewife and spends her days caring for Vikram and the house. They hold a party at their house to commemorate Vikram’s promotion, which will see them move to London. Vikram learns during the party that his advancement contract has been jeopardised in favour of an unskilled subordinate who is a related of his employer. He becomes enraged and has a fight with his supervisor, Rajhans, whom he blames of double-timing him. Vikram smacks Amrita in front of everyone as she attempts to break up the fight. The experience leaves her disturbed; she begins to see all the little inequities she had previously overlooked, and she acknowledges to herself that Vikram hitting her isn’t something a respectable spouse would do. Vikram also refuses to accept responsibility for his conduct, claiming that he was agitated, that she keeps getting in the way, but such events occur from time to time.

Thappad’ is more than a pointless tirade about questionable family abuse; it exposes a woman’s years of indoctrination at the hands from her own family and the culture in which she lives. Many women in focus include one who is suffering the consequences of a family’s reputation and heritage, one that is tried to hang up on the notion that marriage is the final objective, one who comes from an impoverished group in society and is forced to start believing that being clobbered by the husband is the standard, whom has experienced loss a good husband and is now having difficulties to find a role who outshines the opposite. Sinha weaves all of these tales together and juxtaposes them at key points without becoming overbearing. As the dramatic difference between their lifestyles unfolds, the nuance works well.
