Following the lack of theatrical releases due to the epidemic, Mimi was set for a digital release on July 30, 2021, via the streaming platforms Netflix and JioCinema. However, the film was unintentionally published by Jio Cinema and ended up, four days before its intended premiere. Mimi Movie Storyline
Summer and John are an American couple who are unable to conceive and are searching for a surrogate mother in Rajasthan. They meet Mimi Rathod, a local dancer and aspiring model, and think she’d be the ideal surrogate mother for their kid. They persuade Bhanu Pratap Pandey, a local cab driver, to hire Mimi as their surrogate with a promise of Rs. 20 lakh. Mimi, who aspires to be a Bollywood star and travels to Mumbai to pursue her goals but lacks the necessary funds to do so, accepts after some reluctance. Mimi gets pregnant with John and Summer’s kid after the IVF process is successful. Mimi lies to her parents and tells them she is travelling to Mumbai for 9 months to make a film in order to cover up her pregnancy. She moves in with Shama, a friend of hers. John and Summer ask Bhanu to look after Mimi while she is pregnant.

Makers had scheduled a March 2021 theatrical release following his picture Roohi, which was the first big Hindi film to be released after the epidemic. The producers anticipated a digital release in May 2021, after the statewide lockdown due to an increase in virus instances and the second wave of the pandemic. Netflix released the film internationally, and JioCinema published it in India as well, with a release date of July 30, 2021. MIMI starts out on a strong tone, clearly explaining the notion of surrogacy. Mimi makes a swift entrance. Mimi’s acceptance of surrogacy is admirable. The sequence in which Dr. Asha reveals Mimi’s pregnancy is heartfelt, and it is then that viewers understand the film will rank even higher on the sentimental scale. Mimi and Bhanu claiming to be an Islamic couple will undoubtedly be a hit. When Summer and John flee, the stunner hits. However, the filmmakers do not allow the film to get sombre, and soon the music of Bhanu impersonating the child’s father is inserted, adding to the amusement. The moment in which Rekha and Bhanu’s mother Kainkayi stage a scenario in which they presume Bhanu has remarried is sure to deliver the house to the ground.
Although lead actress Kriti Sanon gives a strong performance in the key role, expertly navigating a variety of emotions, the personality does not emerge across like a full-fledged resistance movement in a close town where each activity is scrutinised, questioned, and curious eyes, due to the film’s focus on the particularity of motherhood in a woman’s life.
