Some Lesser Known Facts About Priyam Garg

• When he was a child, his family could not buy a TV, and he would watch cricket matches at a nearby “paan shop”.

• He comes from a financially weak family. In his childhood days, his father used to do odd jobs such as selling milk, driving vans, loading trucks and distributing newspapers, and supporting Priyam’s cricket training.

• His mother died in 2011 due to a serious disease when Priyam was 11 years old. He wanted to quit cricket and support the family after his mother passed away. However, his father inspired and supported him to play.

• He has been playing cricket since he was 6 years old, and when he was 8 years old, he joined Victoria Park Cricket Training Ground in Meerut to receive training and take the sport seriously.

• Victoria Park training ground was 40 km from his home, and Priyam would take a bus every day with one of his siblings to take him to the ground.

• He made his “List A” cricket debut for Uttar Pradesh against Saurashtra in the “Vijay Hazare Trophy”. Exactly a month later, Priyam made his Ranji Trophy debut and scored a century in his first match versus Goa.

• In 2018, Priyam was running for a place in India’s Under-19 team but was not selected due to a fall in form. Allegedly, the selectors decided to give him time and let him regain his form and confidence.

• On 2 December 2019, Garg was named as the captain of India’s Under-19 team for the 2020 World Under-19 Cricket World Cup in South Africa and also as India’s Under-19 captain for the tour of South Africa.
