Maanaadu is a 2021 Indian Tamil language action drama film directed by Venkat Prabhu. It is produced by Suresh Kamatchi under the banners of V House Productions. The film star Silambarasan, S. J. Suryah, and,Kalyani Priyadarshan are in title roles. The music was composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja.

On November 25, 2021, the film was released in theatres. Silambarasan and S. J. Suryah’s performances, Venkat Prabhu’s directing and screenplay, Yuvan Shankar Raja’s background score, and Praveen K. L.’s editing all garnered great accolades from the audience and reviewers. Venkat Prabhu has announced that there would be a sequel, with the principal actors returning.

Maanaadu Movie Storyline

Abdul Khaliq is an NRI travelling to Coimbatore to assist his buddy Eswaramoorthy in eloping with his sweetheart Zarina Begum on the day of her wedding, with the aid of another friend Syed Basha. During the flight, he becomes friends with a talkative Seethalakshmi. After learning that she is also on her way to Zarina’s wedding, he convinces her to accompany him. They elope and flee the bride’s relatives, who are pursuing them. An unknown guy suddenly falls on their vehicle as they drive to the clerk’s office. The guy was being chased by the police, who were commanded by Inspector John. On the direction of corrupt DCP Dhanushkodi, they are then extrajudicially detained. The DCP and John then compel Khaliq to attend a planned political meeting with chief minister Arivazhagan in attendance, and Khaliq is told to kill Arivazhagan with a gun or his friends would die. Khaliq unwillingly shoots Arivazhagan, who dies. Despite his objections, John shoots Khaliq to death in the midst of the mayhem.

It has grossed a total of 100 crore as on December 19, 2021. SonyLIV acquired the post-theatrical streaming rights to all south Indian versions of the film, while Star Vijay acquired the satellite rights to the Tamil version. From December 24, 2021, it was available to watch on SonyLIV.

Maanaadu stays concentrated on its primary premise with a political element of the chief minister’s killing, without devoting much time to the characters’ tales or any love aspect. It subsequently unveils another surprise of how not one but two persons are stuck in the time loop, making scathing remarks about the social milieu inside the nation with allusions to key historical events. The other is the ACP, who is well performed by SJ Suryah.

The characters’ apparently continuous struggles to break free from the temporal trap have an inherent freshness to them. Many actors in these films react to such films as if they are seeing such an idea for the first time.
