Drishyam is a 2013 Indian Malayalam language crime thriller film directed by Jeethu Joseph. It is produced by Antony Perumbavoor under the banners of Aashirvad Cinemas Films. The film star Mohanlal Meena, Ansiba Hassan, Esther Anil, Asha Sarath, and, Siddique are in title roles. The music was composed by Anil Johnson, Vinu Thomas.

Drishyam was released in India on December 19, 2013. On 3 January 2014, it was also released in theatres in the United States, the United Kingdom, and the United Arab Emirates. The film was chosen for the Indian Premiere section of India’s 45th International Film Festival. It was also shown in the 8th Asian Film Festival in Jeddah in 2015, where India was represented.

Drishyam Movie Storyline

In a remote hillside region in Kerala, Georgekutty (Mohanlal) owns a cable-TV network. With his wife and two children, he has a joyful existence. The first part of the film focuses on their happy family. During the events, Georgekutty’s daughter, Anju, leaves on a school excursion. After a few days, Anju encounters a boy who was on the school trip with her. He blackmails her by showing her a video he took of her during the school trip. He is inadvertently killed by Rani and Anju over the course of events. When Georgekutty returns home, he is informed of the incidents, and a mind game starts, since the dead person is the son of IG Geeta Prabhakar. The remainder of the novel follows the family as they weather the storm that erupts throughout the murder inquiry, culminating in a truly rewarding and unexpected denouement.

The film “began quietly” but “dominated the box office” on its second day of release. In its first eight days, the picture made 67 million dollars. Drishyam became the highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time in less than a month after its premiere. The film was released in Kerala for more than 150 days, grossing over 430 million rupees.

The film also made over 100 million rupees in the rest of India. In Tamil Nadu, it aired for 100 days. Drishyam Movie Review

The first part of the film is deliberately slow-paced, showing the viewer the brighter times in Georgekutty’s household. This part has aspects from both the drama and comedy genres. From the conclusion of the first half, the viewer is thoroughly engrossed in the twist of events that begin to emerge. The second part is more thriller-like, and it concerns how the family, despite the vindictive villainy of a corrupt officer, holds firm even while the law takes its course.
