In his childhood, Finch played at Colac West Cricket Club & District Cricket Association (CDCA) as a wicket-keeper. As a right-handed batsman, he played in the Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2006 in Sri Lanka. Finch was select for the Australian team in the cricket world cup 2015 where he scored 135 runs against England. In the 2019 cricket world cup, he captained the Australian team. In November 2020, Finch was nominated for the ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Decade award. Finch was nominated for the ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Decade award In November 2020.
