OnePlus entered the smart TV segment with the launch of OnePlus TV Q1 series early last year. The Smart TV series made its debut with the OnePlus 7T lineup. The company decided to call off its journey with two premium offerings. But this plan is not visible as OnePlus is attracting attention towards affordable smart TVs.
OnePlus co-founder and CEO Pete Lau revealed via Twitter today that an affordable OnePlus TV is debuting next month on July 2. The caption, as you see below, reads – “We are making our premium smart TV experience more accessible to our Indian community.

The teaser poster featured the silhouette of OnePlus TV with its Kevlar back panel, which is similar to the original version. Nothing else has been confirmed from the poster, but Navneet Nakra, the new vice president and chief strategy officer (CSO) of OnePlus India sat down for an interview with Economic Times to give us some more juicy diets.
In the interview, Nakra said, “Entrance and middle segments are growing rapidly and have focused our attention. If we want to diversify into a wider audience in India, this is the best way.” OnePlus is poised for mass appeal, with rivals like Xiaomi and Realme in the budget segment.
The company intends to launch two new OnePlus TV variants. One who sits in sub-Rs. 15,000 price segment (possibly a 32-inch HD-ready smart TV) and a mid-range range at Rs. 20,000 – Rs. 40,000 price range. Counterpoint research has already shown that the Smart TV market has more than 70% share in the budget segment, with Xiaomi leading the pack.
Budget smart TVs are already crowded with players like Xiaomi, iFFalcon, Vu, and now, even Realme. OnePlus needs to be cautious with its approach. But, I think if the company offers great picture and audio quality with add-on features like OnePlus Connect, then it stands a chance of a fight in this segment.
OnePlus only managed to court 3% of the premium market share with its OnePlus TV Q1 lineup. It includes the Q1 and Q1 Pro, which feature a 55-inch 4K QLED panel, 50W speakers, Android TV, and a bunch of other features. The company is now trying to broaden its appeal in India. It is not only planning to launch new budget smart TVs, but is also bringing cheap phones to the market.
Now, we will have to wait and see if the OnePlus TV will be with the budget smartphone, OnePlus Z or not. Are you excited for the launch of cheap OnePlus TV? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
